Events UPDATE! It is with great sorrow and sadness that we inform you that our beloved Katie Reider has passed away. She was a kind, loving woman. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her partner, Karen, and their 2 boys. Only a month ago, Katie sent a card saying she wished so badly that she could do something to help others, even while going through all of this herself and not being able to speak. She said she was blessed by all the help and prayers folks have given for her and how much it meant to her. Her kind, loving spirit and songs will live on. There was a candlelight vigil for Katie at Goodale Park gazebo, Monday, July 14th, at 9:00 pm. Click on this link to read more about Katie http://katiereider.blogspot.com/
When The Music Stops... By: Karen Devereaux Katie Reider was merely an acquaintance over the last 10 years. I watched her strumming her guitar and singing in popular venues in Columbus, Ohio. I always liked the passion that she displayed in her lyrics and in her voice. Her mannerisms seemed so down to earth and genuine. The way she played to the crowd showed her compassion and appreciation for her fan base. I had not seen her play in quite some time and assumed that it was because I was visiting those former venues much less often, plus, I heard she was touring the East Coast. I had also heard she was sick and that there was a fundraiser for some health bills. I thought to myself, that's nice of them to do this for her until she gets back on her feet and able to perform for us again. I began thinking about my entertainment choices- with her being tied up with health issues. Skip to 2 days ago when I received an email from a friend with a website link that has left knots in my chest and an overly inept feeling regarding my assessment of her situation. I had no idea she was fighting for her life! Two years ago, Katie developed a tumor in her upper left jaw that progressed into her sinus, skull base and left eye orbit. In March of 2008, a dime-sized "spot" was found on her esophagus, taking away her voice and ability to perform. The website listed below is hoping to get 500,000 clicks, at $1.00 per download. For that, you get to download 9 of her songs. The songs are all originals- written and sung by Katie and speak to you about the depth of this wonderful artist. Please visit the website and click on the links to read her story. Giving only a $1.00 will make you feel very inadequate... trust me. The story, pictures, and songs...speak for themselves. http://www.500kin365.org/ ___________________________________________________________________________ Click Below to See PDF on This Event!
